It’s not just for children!

Prek – K: It is important for a child to feel secure and happy in Church as well as to know that they are a part of the church family. The goal, therefore, is to “create” an atmosphere of love and understanding. Because children of this age are curious, imaginative, and questioning, we hope to stimulate their minds and creativity.

1st – 3rd grade: younger elementary children need guidance to help them understand what they are experiencing in life, and to help them relate these experiences to God and others in loving, helpful ways. Great emphasis is put upon learning about the Scriptures as they contain God’s message of guidance, hope and love.

4th – 5th grade: These older elementary children need instruction and advice on how the bible and God relate to their everyday lives and emphasize what it means to pray, treat others with love and how to hope and listen for Gods answers.

Youth 6th grade and up:

– two Adult Bible Study groups:  As adults we often need more in depth understanding as to the advice the Bible offers us as well as knowledge of the teachers who wrote the books of the bible.  Typically these groups will pick a book of the bible and work through it (past studies have included Genesis, Romans & Corinthians).  Sometimes, a theme will be selected like the parables of Jesus.

All groups meet for lessons and discussion on Sundays at 9:15 am

Children & Youth Group Activities

Various activites and outings are planned throughout the year for all our young people.  Sometimes the fun is planned for all ages to enjoy.  Other times just for our younger children or Youth alone.  Some of our past activites include:

– Pumpkin Fest

– Attending Jacksonville Sharks arena football

– Ice Skating

– Roller Skating

Night of Joy at Disney’s Magic Kingdom

Summer Camp at Camp Montgomery in Ketstone Heights, Florida.

Winter Jam christian concert in Jacksonville

Vacation Bible School

For over thirty years, our church has participated and/or partnered with other churches to be involved in a Vacation Bible School during the summer months. Since the completion of The Potter’s House, we have been blessed to offer our own Vacation Bible School, with the attendance growing each year. Over half of the children who participate are not part of our church, and this enables us to reach out to them in special ways. It is a labor of love and the community rallies with us to educate the children on God’s love for them.  Some of our past themes have included:

– Operation Overboard

– Workshop of Wonders

– Shake it up

– G-Force

– Barnyard Roundup

Each year the theme and daily topics are different but the message remains the same – God loves you, is with you and cares for you always!  It is a blessing for both children AND adults to be involved with VBS.

Christmas Eve Pageant

Christmas is certainly in the air. Every year (for as many years as anyone can remember) San Mateo Presbyterian Church celebrates Christmas Eve with a program performed by the children. It is like a homecoming for many. What better way to celebrate Christ’s birth than with children? Didn’t God see it fitting to send us a baby? We always appreciate anyone that is willing to offer their talents to support this presentation. There’s plenty of work for all.
